Penn joined a cast that includes Alexander Ludwig, Poppy Liu, Stephen Dorff, Kate Walsh, Adam Pally, Chris Redd and David Castañeda. The film is directed and co-written by Steve Pink.

Kal Penn joined the English-language cast of Studio Ponoc’s animated feature The Imaginary, voicing Zinzan in the film’s international version.
Studio Ponoc announced the English cast in June 2024, ahead of the film’s worldwide Netflix release on July 5. Penn’s castmates included Hayley Atwell, LeVar Burton, Sky Katz and Jeremy Swift.
